Wildcats Lose to Blue Devils
(4/6/07 – Franklin Field) The Blue Devils started the scoring off in the top of the first by plating one run. The Wildcats answered back with three runs of their own. Caleb Samples and Andrew Riedel scored on an error by the Norcross shortstop. Drew Gibson later scored on an error by the second baseman. Norcross answered back with three runs in the top of the second to take the lead and they never looked back after that. Norcross scored two more in the third. The Wildcats were able to score one in the third with Drew Gibson scoring on an error. The Blue Devils added one more run in the fifth and the score ended 7 to 4.
Eric Tineo pitched the whole game for the Wildcats striking out three and only giving up two earned runs. The lone hit of the night for the Wildcats came from Andrew Riedel.
Wildcats Lose to Forsyth Central
(4/4/07 Forsyth Central High School) Duluth was able to get on the board first in the top of the second. Chandler Pethan walked and stole second. Kyle Wilson then hit a double in left center which allowed Pethan to score. Eric Tineo walked and Andrew McCrary followed that with a three-run home run. The Wildcats were able to get one more across in the inning creating a five run lead. Forsyth Central then scored in every inning after that with the Wildcats only to get one more across in the top of the fifth. The final score of the game was the Bulldogs 15 and the Wildcats 6.
The Wildcats got hits from Caleb Samples, Reid Merwin, Kevin Fortmann, Kyle Wilson, and Andrew McCrary (HR 3 RBI).
Wildcats Lose to North Forsyth
(4/2/07 – Franklin Field) The game was void of scoring until the top of the fifth when North Forsyth exploded for five runs. This would be all that the Raiders would need. Duluth was able to get one run in the bottom of the seventh when Andrew Riedel scored on Eric Tineo’s single.
The Wildcats got a solid relief appearance from Eric Tineo, pitching 2 and a 1/3 innnings not allowing a run. Duluth got hits from Jared Van Camp, Luke Jordan, Andrew Riedel, Drew Gibson, Eric Tineo, and Andrew McCrary.
Wildcats Drop One to War Eagles
(3/30/07 - Franklin Field) Duluth got on the board in the first in the bottom of the first. Jared Van Camp scored on a Drew Gibson double. The War Eagles then tore the game open in the top of the fourth scoring 15 runs. Duluth answered back with three in the bottom of the fourth. The War Eagles added four more in the top of the fifth. The final score was Duluth 4 and South Forsyth 19.
Duluth’s pitching gave up 19 runs, but only 4 were earned. Duluth was led at the plate by Jared Van Camp who went 2 for 2 with a walk. The Wildcats also got hits from Luke Jordan, Drew Gibson, Kevin Fortmann, Andrew Riedel, and Max Wang.
Wildcats Lose Close One to Collins Hill
(3/26/07 - Franklin Field) The Eagles started the game off scoring three runs in the top of the first. Duluth answered with one run of their own in the bottom half of the same inning. Caleb Samples scored off of an error. Collins Hill then scored one in the second and four in the third. Duluth scored one in the bottom of the third with a home run by Andrew Riedel. Duluth then answered with four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Eric Tineo led off the inning with a single. Tineo advanced to third on a single by Drew Gibson. Andrew McCrary singled which allowed Tineo to score. Caleb Samples then singled which loaded the bases for Jared Van Camp. Van Camp doubled scoring both Gibson and McCrary. The Eagles then scored one in the fifth and two in the seventh. The Wildcats were down 11 to 6 in the bottom of the seventh. Luke Jordan led off with a single. Eric Tineo reached on a dropped third strike and Jordan advanced to third. Drew Gibson reached on an error which allowed Jordan to score. Andrew McCrary doubled plating Tineo. Caleb Samples hit a sacrifice fly which allowed Gibson to score. Jared Van Camp singled scoring McCrary. The Wildcats lost 11 to 10
The Wildcats were led at the plate by Andrew McCrary (3 for 3 2 RBI), Caleb Samples (2 for 4 RBI), Jared Van Camp (2 for 5 3 RBI), and Andrew Riedel (2 for 5 RBI HR). The Wildcats also got hits from Max Wang, Luke Jordan, Eric Tineo, and Drew Gibson.
Wildcats Open Region with a Loss
(3/23/07 - Mill Creek High School) This game was a great pitching and defensive battle. Mill Creek drew first blood scoring two in the fourth and one in the sixth. The Wildcats were able to score one in the seventh, but the comeback bid fell short. Luke Jordan scored off of an error by the third baseman.
Eric Tineo pitched a complete game giving up 5 hits, 3 runs (2 earned), and striking out two. At the dish, the Wildcats were led by Kevin Fortmann who went 2 for 3. Duluth also got hits from Jared Van Camp, Luke Jordan, Eric Tineo, and Andrew McCraryWildcats Lose to Highly Ranked Alpharetta
(3/21/07 - Alpharetta High School) The Wildcats got on the board first in this game in the third inning. Caleb Samples singled and scored on Jared Van Camp’s double. Van Camp scored on Drew Gibson’s single. The Raiders answered with two of their own in the fourth. Luke Jordan led off the inning with a home run which made the score 3 to 2. The Raiders scored two in the fifth and never looked back adding three more in the seventh to make the final score 7 to 3.
Luke Jordan started giving up five hits and two runs over four innings. Troy Johnson pitched three innings striking out three. The Wildcats were led at the plate by Luke Jordan (2 for 3 HR RBI) and Eric Tineo (2 for 3). (3/19/07 – Franklin Field) The Wildcats just could not get anything going in this game. Shiloh struck first in the first inning scoring two off of errors committed by Duluth’s defense. Duluth was never able to get a string of hits together in this game. The Generals also scored one in the top of the seventh. The final score of the game was Shiloh 3 Duluth 0.
Anthony Amato got the start for the Wildcats and went 5 innings striking out 3. Kyle Wilson followed in relief pitching 1 1/3 innings striking out one. Troy Johnson came in to pitch 2/3 of an inning. The Wildcats got hits from Caleb Samples, Luke Jordan, and Drew Gibson.
Wildcats Take One from Knights
(3/16/07 – Franklin Field) Central Gwinnett was able to draw first blood in the top of the first inning. The Knights scored a run because of some shaky defense. The Knights also scored one in the top of the third. The Wildcats’ bats finally awoke in the bottom of the fifth inning. Luke Jordan led off the inning with a walk. Drew Gibson then hit a two-run home run over the center-field fence. Gibson’s home run knotted the game at 2 apiece. Duluth then scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth off of a clutch two out hit by Kevin Fortmann. The Knights answered back with a home run in the top of the seventh, which tied the game. Drew Gibson led off the bottom of the seventh with a double off of the center-field fence. Reid Merwin was then put in to pinch run for Gibson. The Knights elected to walk Andrew McCrary to have force plays in order. Chandler Pethan laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to move Merwin to third and McCrary to second. Caleb Samples then hit a fly ball to right field which was deep enough to allow Merwin to tag from third.
Eric Tineo started on the hill giving Duluth a solid five innings, while striking out seven. Anthony Amato came in and pitched 1 2/3 innings. Andrew Riedel pitched a 1/3 of an inning, but that was all he needed to pitch to get the win. The Wildcats were led at the plate by Kevin Fortmann (2 for 3 RBI) and Drew Gibson (2 for 3 HR 2RBI). Duluth got a hit apiece from Jared Van Camp, Andrew Riedel, Max Wang, and Luke Jordan. Caleb Samples added the game winning sacrifice fly and Chandler Pethan added a sacrifice bunt.
Wildcats Lose Tough One to Grayson
(3/15/07 - Grayson High School) Grayson scored one run in the bottom of the first. Duluth struck back in the top of the fourth. Jared Van Camp led off with a double. Van Camp was advanced to third by Andrew Riedel. Kevin Fortmann singled in Van Camp from third, which tied the game. Duluth then took the lead in the top of the fifth. Reid Merwin led the inning off with a double. Merwin advanced to third on a single by Eric Tineo. Merwin was able to score on a fielder’s choice by Caleb Samples. The Wildcats were one out away in the bottom of the seventh, but were not able to finish the deal. Grayson scored two and won 3 to 2.
Reid Merwin pitched six solid innings striking out seven batters and walking none. Andrew Riedel came into to relieve due to Merwin’s injury and pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up the game winning run. Duluth was led at the dish by Kevin Fortmann (3 for 3 RBI). Duluth also got hits from Jared Van Camp, Reid Merwin, and Eric Tineo.
Wildcats Lose to Campbell
(3/12/07 – Campbell High School) Duluth started off the night drawing first blood. In the top of the second, Max Wang led off with a walk. Luke Jordan then hit a triple, which allowed Wang to score. Reid Merwin hit a deep fly out to center which allowed Jordan to score from third. Duluth was not able to keep Campbell off of the board in the bottom half of the inning. Campbell struck back with two runs of their own. In the top of the third, Jared Van Camp led off the inning with a double. Andrew Riedel hit a single, which allowed Van Camp to score. In the bottom of the third, Campbell answered back with five runs. Duluth then tried to cut back into the lead in the top of the fourth. Andrew McCrary walked and was moved over to third base by Anthony Amato. Caleb Samples hit a double allowing McCrary to score easily. Jared Van Camp singled, allowing Samples to score from second. In the bottom of the fifth, the Wildcats gave up another five spot. Duluth never gave up though. In the top of the sixth, Andrew McCrary led off with a single. Kyle Wilson reached on an error. With two outs, Andrew Riedel hit a triple allowing McCrary and Wilson to score. After Riedel’s triple, Drew Gibson came up to bat and blasted the ball over the centerfield fence for a two-run home run. The Wildcats had enough offense to win this game; just the defense was a little shaky at times.
The Wildcats used four pitchers on the night, Andrew McCrary, Anthony Amato, Troy Johnson, and Kyle Wilson. The Wildcats were led at the plate by Jared Van Camp (2 for 4 2B RBI), Andrew Riedel (2 for 4 3B 3RBI), Luke Jordan (2 for 4 3B RBI), Andrew McCrary (2 for 3), Caleb Samples (1 for 5 RBI), Drew Gibson (1 for 3 HR 2 RBI), and Kevin Fortmann (1 for 2).
Wildcats Bounce Back
(3/10/07 – Franklin Field) The day after losing to Harrison, Duluth came back and defeated Centennial. Centennial started off the game scoring one run on an error. The Wildcats came back in the bottom of the first and answered with a run of their own when Reid Merwin singled and Caleb Samples was allowed to score on the left fielder’s error. After the first inning, the game turned into a pitchers duel. Duluth hit a rough spot in the top of the fifth allowing 2 unearned runs. Reid Merwin came into pitch during the fifth inning. He was able to shut down Centennial and allowed Duluth to escape with only giving up 2 runs. In the bottom of the seventh, Duluth mounted a come back. Max Wang singled to lead off the inning. Caleb Samples singled allowing Wang to score. Jared Van Camp singled which allowed Samples to score. Now the game was tied. Van Camp advanced to second on a balk. Van Camp then took third on a passed ball. Reid Merwin singled which allowed Van Camp to score securing the win for the Wildcats.

Merwin pitched the last three innings, not surrendering a run, and striking out 4 batters. The Wildcats were led at the plate by Caleb Samples (2 for 3 RBI), Reid Merwin (2 for 4 RBI), Jared Van Camp (1 for 4 RBI), Kevin Fortmann (1 for 3), Max Wang (1 for 3), and Drew Gibson (1 for 2).
Hoyas Defeat Wildcats
(3/9/07 – Harrison High School) Duluth was just never able to get anything going in this game. Harrison scored six runs in the first inning and then added four more in the third. Duluth never gave up and kept on fighting through the whole game. Duluth was able to get two across in the fourth, but Harrison was just too much for Duluth in this game. The final score of the game was Harrison 13 Duluth 2 in five innings. Duluth was able to muster out 8 hits, but was never able to get a rally going. The Wildcats also committed six errors which didn’t help in the comeback bid.
Duluth got gutsy performances from Luke Jordan, Troy Johnson, and Anthony Amato up on the hill. The Harrison hitters were just too much and the defense behind them didn’t help that much either. Jared Van Camp went 2 for 2 at the plate with an RBI. Caleb Samples also went 2 for 2. Duluth also got hits from Kevin Fortmann, Max Wang, Andrew McCrary, and Luke Jordan.
Wildcats Notch First Win of the Season
(3/7/07 – Shiloh High School) The Wildcats got their first win the season against the Shiloh Generals. Duluth fell behind in the bottom of the second when the Generals stole a run against the Wildcats by double stealing. Duluth soon settled down and the game turned into a pitchers duel. Duluth finally got on the board in the top of the fifth when Jared Van Camp singled in Drew Gibson from third. In the top of the sixth inning, Duluth exploded for eight runs. Kevin Fortmann started the inning off with a walk. Andrew McCrary reached on an error. Luke Jordan doubled, scoring Fortmann. Eric Tineo walked loading the bases. Drew Gibson came up to bat and singled scoring both McCrary and Jordan. Tineo scored when Gibson stole second and third. Caleb Samples singled allowing Gibson to score. Chandler Pethan reached on an error which allowed Samples to score. Jared Van Camp then hit a triple and Reid Merwin hit Van Camp in with a single. McCrary got up again and allowed Merwin to score. McCrary got thrown out at third by trying to stretch a double into a triple. This was more than enough run support for the Wildcats’ pitching staff for this night.
Reid Merwin got the start on the mound. In his first varsity start, Merwin (1-0) went a solid 5 innings allowing 6 hits, one unearned run, and striking out six batters. Kyle Wilson and Eric Tineo finished the game with an inning a piece. Duluth was led at the plate by Drew Gibson (2 for 2 2RBI), Luke Jordan (2 for 3 RBI), and Jared Van Camp (2 for 4 RBI). The Wildcats also got hits from Reid Merwin, Andrew McCrary, and Caleb Samples.
Wildcats Fall Short in Come Back Bid
(3/6/07 - Northview High School) The Wildcats got the scoring started in the 2nd Inning. Reid Merwin reached on an error to lead off the inning. Max Wang singled, allowing Merwin to advance to 3rd. Luke Jordan tripled, scoring both Merwin and Wang. The Wildcats failed to capitalize on a runner on 3rd with nobody out. The Titans answered with two runs in the bottom of the 2nd to pull even. The Wildcats struck back in the top of the 3rd, with Jared Van Camp scoring on an error by the pitcher on a fielder’s choice. The bottom of the 3rd, the Wildcats got into some trouble. The Titans capitalized on Duluth’s mistakes and was able to score 7 runs. After the 3rd, Troy Johnson was able to quiet the Titans’ bats and the Titans did not score anymore runs. In the top of the 7th, the Wildcats mounted a come back. Kevin Fortmann walked. Reid Merwin followed with a walk as well. Max Wang singled, which allowed Fortmann to score. Luke Jordan singled, which brought home Merwin. Wang scored on a wild pitch. Chandler Pethan walked. Caleb Samples came up to bat lacing a double down the Right Field line pushing Jordan in to score. The Wildcats had the tying run at second with two outs, but was not able to push that run in.
Anthony Amato started the game for the Wildcats. He pitched 2 innings, giving up 2 runs, and striking out 3. Andrew McCrary came in relief, but had a rough outing. Troy Johnson came in to relieve McCrary. Johnson pitched 4 innings and had 2 strike outs. Duluth was led at the plate by Luke Jordan (3 for 4 3B 3 RBI), Max Wang (2 for 4 RBI), and Jared Van Camp (2 for 5). Duluth also got hits from Caleb Samples (RBI), Drew Gibson, and Chandler Pethan.
Wheeler Wins Battle of Wildcats
(3/3/07 - Franklin Field) The Duluth Wildcats dropped its first game of the season to the Wheeler Wildcats on March 3. Duluth started off shaky, giving up 4 unearned runs in the First Inning. In the second inning, Duluth had the bases loaded with zero outs, but was only to get one run across the plate. Wheeler soon added runs in the 4th and 5th inning. In the bottom of the 6th Inning, Duluth was down 6 to 1. Duluth mounted a come back. Max Wang started off the inning with a walk. Wang advanced to second on a passed ball. Luke Jordan then doubled to bring home Wang. Kyle Wilson also doubled, plating Jordan. Drew Gibson doubled and allowed Wilson to score. Gibson scored on a double by Jared Van Camp. Duluth cut the lead to 6 to 5 by the end of the 6th inning. The bottom of the 7th Duluth once again tried to pull even. Max Wang started the inning off with a single. Kevin Fortmann followed with a single. Wang was thrown out attempting to steal 3rd. Kyle Wilson walked. Runners were on first and second for Drew Gibson with two outs. Gibson hit the ball to Right Center and on a very close play at the plate Fortmann was tagged out

Duluth’s next game is March 6 at Northview at 5:55 P.M. Duluth hopes to get its first win on the season.
